Actually, Mey GmbH & Co. KG produces more or less concealing textiles for underneath. For some weeks now, the seamstresses in Albstadt have been producing covers for the top. Mey's mouth and nose protectors fit so well that the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices has now granted a special licence for the medical sector.
According to the company, approximately 130 people work in the production of the mask at the company's headquarters. During the development of the mask, Mey paid particular attention to the fit of the mask, which can be applied equally tightly over the nose, mouth and chin and thus offers special protection against the release of corona virus via droplets. In addition, the material has been refined so that the mask is water-repellent and washable at 60 degrees.
With the approval, Mey may now market the mask as a medical product in the medical field. There, the demand for mouth-nose protection masks is still very high, which is why only institutional facilities, such as hospitals or nursing services, are served. Mey expressly points out that the face mask is not a replacement for FFP2 or FFP3 masks, which are necessary for contact with Covid-19 patients.
